GRANDMOTHER'S DELICIOUS
GINGERBREAD
 
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
3/4 c. molasses
2 3/4 c. sifted regular flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
ice cream, whipped cream or applesauce

Blend sugar, Crisco and eggs. Stir in molasses. Add combined dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk; beat well. Spread in a well-greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream or applesauce.

To make sour milk, add 1 tablespoon vinegar to 1 cup milk.
