1/2 c. butter softened 3/4 to 1 c. sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla or lemon extract 2 c. all purpose flour 1/2 c. stone ground whole wheat flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon FROSTING: Powdered sugar Water or lemon juice Food coloring Cream butter; add sugar gradually until mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in egg and flavoring until creamy. Stir dry ingredients together and add to butter mixture. Add enough water or milk to make the dough pliable. Roll on lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness and cut into shapes. Bake at 375 degrees on greased cookie sheets for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove and cool. Decorate with frosting made by mixing powdered sugar with water or lemon juice to a spreadable consistency. Add food coloring for the desired color. Makes 4 to 5 dozen. |
