ARNOLD'S CRANBERRY SAUSAGE
STUFFING

1 (15 oz.) Arnold's stuffing
2 eggs, slightly beaten
4 med. onions, finely chopped (1 1/2 c.)
6 stalks celery, finely chopped (2 1/2 c.)
1 lb. pork sausage, pan fried & drained
1 can (8 oz.) jellied cranberry sauce
1 to 2 c. apple juice

Mix the stuffing mix, cooked sausage, chopped onions and celery, eggs and beaten cranberry sauce (beat cranberry sauce first, beat until thin). Add apple juice a little at a time, until entire mixture is dampened but not mushy - for less moist stuffing use less apple juice.

This amount stuffs an 18 to 20 pound turkey, for 8 to 10 pound turkey cut recipe in half.

Bake turkey as directed for weight. Unused dressing - bake separately in a covered casserole for 30 minutes in preheated oven at 350°F.

I have been making this for at least 25 years. My daughters loved it when they were in high school and now my grandsons love it too! Arnolds should put this recipe back on the bag of seasoned stuffing cubes.

Over the years I have prepared dozens of different stuffing recipes. This is the one that I always come back to and that my family requests time after time. I think it is the apple juice and the cranberry sauce that infuse into the turkey and this infusion makes the bird taste better. And the gravy....absolutely fabulous from the drippings of the roasted stuffed bird. Try it and enjoy!

Like most folks, I found this recipe on a bag of Arnolds stuffing, and I've made it for 40 years. I was amazed to hear my son tell someone it was "an old family recipe." When I tried to straighten him out, and said "It says on the bag that their family brought it from Europe. I never said it was OUR old family recipe."

Found it on bag of stuffing many many years ago. My late husband loved it, now my son and grandson ask me every Thanksgiving to make it! Just so delicious!

I saw this recipe in a magazine when I first got married in 1969. Have been making it since then. My late hubby loved it so much, I made it when we even had baked chicken. My second hubby loves it a lot as well, even though he is a gourmet chef. He said my stuffing can be beat. How nice. Greatest recipe ever.

I've been making this recipe for decades. So happy to find it online, as I misplaced the original from the stuffing package. The entire family loves it. I make every Thanksgiving!

I also have been making this recipe for years, and every time I make it, I'm complimented. Still have old bag which shows recipe!! I sometimes swap out chicken stock for apple juice upon request, but prefer the juice myself!! Best I've ever made/had!

Best stuffing recipe ever. I make it every year to rave reviews. Such delicious flavor! Sprinkle some herbs de provence with lavender on top at serving time for a great earthy flavor kick.

Been making this for 30 years... My original recipe calls for cranberry juice instead of Apple Juice , but all the same.. I have tried to make other stuffings but the family insists on this one... Happy Turkey Day to all.

Try it with cornbread stuffing. Been making it for years. Only one my family likes!

 Donna (Maryland) says:
Believe what everyone says -- this is the best stuffing ever! I've been making it probably over 40 years, since it was printed on the bag of Arnold stuffing mix. It was attributed to a family whose name is now lost. Everyone says it's their favorite. I can't even find Arnold brand stuffing mix any longer. (Another secret -- I throw the leftovers in with my turkey soup -- delish!)

I still have the original recipe cut from the Arnold's Stuffing bag. It's covered with at least 40 years of preparation evidence. The title is: "$12,000 Grand Prize Recipe Cranberry Sausage Stuffing: An old European Recipe Brought to America and Made a Tradition by the Gunther-Mohr-Fitting Family". I no longer host Thanksgiving - the torch has been passed on to our daughter or daughter in law. But I was asked to bring stuffing to the family get together this year. It's been a winner with us and I plan to hand the recipe on. Happy Thanksgiving!

I too, found this recipe over 40 years ago while I lived in the South.
Its a family favorite, and I make it every year. I struggle though, should I be cooking the celery and onion with the sausage before mixing it in? What do you all do? :)

 Kim (New Jersey) says:
I too have been making this since it was on the package as the "million dollar contest winner!" I sauté the onion and celery in a stick of butter and use whole berry cranberry sauce. I have also added a splash of orange juice with the apple juice! YUM!

 Kim (New Jersey) says:
Change that million dollars to $12,000! I just looked at the recipe that I cut from a bag of stuffing and saved for 40ish years!
