GRANDMOM CAHTERINE'S RED VELVET
CAKE
 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar
1 c. buttermilk

(If regular flour, take away 2 tablespoons per cup). Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Mix. In separate bowl, mix food coloring and cocoa. Add to mixture. Add milk alternately with flour and salt. Add vanilla. Mix. Add soda and vinegar. Mix well. Pour in greased and floured tube pan. White buttercream frosting compliments the cake. Bake in 350 degree oven.
