GINGERBREAD PEOPLE 
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. molasses
1 egg
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Cream together shortening, sugar, molasses and egg. Sift together flour, salt, soda, baking powder and spices. Add to molasses mixture and blend well. Chill in refrigerator 2 hours.

Roll dough 1/2 inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutters or cardboard pattern. Place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Press with pieces of raisins for eyes, mouth and buttons. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Cool 2 minutes before removing to cake rack. Decorate with frosting.

ORNAMENTAL FROSTING FOR GINGERBREAD PEOPLE:

1 c. confectioners' sugar
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
1 egg white
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients and beat with electric beater until frosting holds its shape. Cover with damp cloth until ready to use. Fold heavy paper into cone and half fill with frosting. Cut off top and press frosting onto cool gingerbread people.
