GERMAN SWEET-SOUR RED CABBAGE 
4 slices bacon
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 c. water
1/2 c. vinegar
1/4 tsp. cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 apple sliced
5 c. shredded red cabbage (about 1 med. head)
1 sm. onion, sliced

Fry bacon in skillet until crisp. Remove bacon; pour off all but 1 tablespoon fat. Stir sugar, flour, salt and pepper into fat until smooth. Stir in remaining ingredients.

Cover tightly; heat until mixture boils. Reduce heat; cook, stirring occasionally, 25 to 30 minutes. Crumble bacon on top. Serve immediately. Can be stored up to 48 hours. Makes 6 servings.

This is a most unique recipe full of flavor which my husband really liked and I will make again. However, I will reduce the amount of cayenne as it was a little too hot for me. The amount of flour was omitted from the ingredients; I used 3 tbsp. This is a recipe you should try.
