OLD-FASHIONED BANANA PUDDING 
3/4 cup sugar
4 tbsp. self-rising flour
3 cups milk
4 tbsp. (1/2 stick) butter (softened)
4 egg yolks
6 bananas, sliced
1 (12 oz.) box vanilla wafers (Nilla)
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Mix sugar, egg yolks and butter until lemon colored, add flour. Mix thoroughly. Add milk. Stir well. Place over medium heat until custard begins to thicken. Add vanilla.

Layer bananas, wafers and custard until all ingredients are used. Cover with meringue topping (see below).

Bake at 350°F until light brown.

MERINGUE TOPPING:

1/4 cup sugar
4 egg whites

Beat sugar and egg whites until stiff peak forms.
