5 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 tsp. ginger 1/4 tsp. cloves 3/4 c. shortening 1 c. packed brown sugar 1 c. molasses 1/2 c. water Cream shortening and brown sugar. Sift together dry ingredients. Mix molasses and water. Alternating dry ingredients and molasses mix, add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Wrap in waxed paper and chill in refrigerator 1 1/2 hours. Roll dough, one half at a time, on lightly floured surface to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Cut with floured cookie cutter and place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake 10 minutes on 375 degree oven. Yield: 2 dozen cookies. |
