ENGLISH MUFFINS 
2 c. milk
1/2 c. water
5 1/2 to 6 c. flour
2 pkgs. yeast
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Heat milk and water until very warm. Combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and soda. Add liquids to dry mixture; beat well. Stir in enough flour to make a stiff batter. Grease pans and sprinkle with cornmeal. Pour in batter and sprinkle tops with cornmeal. Cover; let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove from pans immediately and cool. Slice, butter and toast as needed.
