LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR IRISH
BREAD
 
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup raisins
1 tbsp. caraway seeds (optional)

Cream butter and sugar; beat together with egg and buttermilk; mix dry ingredients; alternating dry and wet ingredients, add and beat until well mixed. Place dough in a greased loaf pan (3/4 full). Bake 1 hour at 350°F.
