GINGER ROONS 
3/4 c. shortening or butter
1/4 c. molasses
1 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 c. pecans (in tiny bits)

Melt shortening until soft, add molasses and sugar, then dry ingredients, spices. Add egg and pecans last. Moisten hands and spread dough. Bake 25 minutes in 350 degree oven on greased cookie sheet.

ICING:

1 1/2 c. or 2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. milk or cream

Color if desired, half red and half green. You may ice when warm. Cut into bars.
