“PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH APPLE PIE” IS IN:

PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH APPLE PIE
Served every Fall in Pennsylvania Dutch country. A combination of green (such as Granny Smith) and red (such as Cortland or Mcintosh) works best. A few drops of vanilla can be mixed into sugar.

7-10 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

Place sliced apples in 9-inch unbaked pie shell. Mix and sprinkle over apples:

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves

Sprinkle 1 tablespoon water (or fresh lemon juice if you have it) over top.

CRUMB CRUST:

1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1 stick butter

Mix together sugar and flour. Cut the butter into the sugar and flour mixture using a fork, pastry blender or food processor.

Sprinkle over top of pie.

Bake at 400°F for 40-45 minutes. If the pie begins to brown too rapidly, cover lightly with foil.

I love this recipe! In the crumb crust I changed it to brown sugar and added vanilla and walnuts. I entered it into a pie contest and placed! It is fast and easy to make. Amazing with whipped cream or ice cream too!

Easy, yes; delicious, absolutely! The pie browned perfectly and was done in exactly the time listed. I followed the recipe exactly except that after reading elsewhere about speculaaskruiden (a Dutch spice mixture), I decided to add to this recipe all the spices I use for pumpkin pie: 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp each ginger, nutmeg and allspice, and 1/4 tsp cloves. This is the BEST apple pie I have ever made and is SO going to make me the hit of the holiday pie scene! Thank you very much for this recipe.

This recipe is so easy to make. I substituted 1/2 the flour with uncooked oats. I also used wheat flour. I didn't have cloves so I used allspice. I love cinnamin so I increased it alot, about 2 tsps. My family loved it. Make two, it will go fast.

If it takes 45 min to bake, how can you say it only takes 15 min to have a delicious dessert? Do the math, :)

15 minutes is how long it takes to prepare. You don't count the baking time!

Best pie ever! I wanted a recipe like my grandmothers but with minimal effort. This pie tastes even better than Grandma's with minimal effort!

While I agree, it's quick, easy and tasty. The filling was like soup. Next time I'll dust the apples in corn starch before adding the remaining ingredients.

I made this pie one brisk afternoon up in the mountain's of Brian Head Utah. Fabulous doesn't even begin to describe this pie! So easy too! My husband hates Apple Pie but licked the bottom of the pie pan when it was all gone. Going to pull this out of my hat for the holiday's this year. Thank you so much~
