DUTCH APPLE PIE | |
8 or 9 baking apples, peeled and cored 1 tbsp. lemon juice 4 tbsp. all-purpose flour 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. salt 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie shell Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice apples and sprinkle with lemon juice. Add remaining ingredients and toss. Place apple mixture into pie shell and sprinkle with crumb topping (below). Bake for one hour. CRUMB TOPPING: 2 c. uncooked oatmeal 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 lb. butter Grind oatmeal in blender until finely ground. Place oatmeal and all other ingredients into a mixing bowl. Mix with a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse meal. |
