JACK'S CHOCOLATE SUGAR COOKIES | |
½ cup (1/4 lb) butter (softened) 1 cup sugar 1 cup chocolate chips ¾ cup walnuts, ground very fine in a blender 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg 1 tsp. Cream of Tartar (not absolutely necessary, but nice) 1/8 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 2 ½ cups flour 1. Mix sugar, butter and chocolate chips in an electric mixer until most of the chips are incorporated, turning the batter brown. Add the finely ground nuts, egg and vanilla. 2. Mix the flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar in a small bowl and add into the mixer. 3. Mix well on a slow setting. Add a small amount of water if needed in order to get everything to combine, but not so much that the dough is gooey. 4. Roll up about half the mixture in wax paper, making a small “log” 1 ½ to 2 inches in diameter. Unroll from the wax paper and slice off cookies roughly ¼ to 3/8 inch in thickness. Place on cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough. 5. Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool a minute or two. Remove to a cooling rack. The cookies will easily last a week in an air tight container… if you don’t eat them all sooner. Makes about 4 dozen cookies Submitted by: Jack Horst |
