BISCUITS AND SAUSAGE GRAVY
8 buttermilk biscuits
3/4 pound of sausage (fatty sausage works best for this)
4 cups of milk
4-8 tablespoons flour

Prepare biscuits as instructed on package. Brown sausage in skillet. As soon as sausage is completely brown, turn to medium heat. Add flour by the tablespoon, stirring constantly. Let the flour turn BROWN before adding another tablespoon (if you don't, your gravy will taste like flour). After you have added enough flour to make the gravy as thick as you like, add milk and stir with whisk.

Serve over biscuits.

I have made this recipe several times now :) its great. They key is adding the flour tablespoon by tablespoon, and being patient when you add your milk at first it seems like way to much milk, but after whisking it for about five minutes it ends up perfect. I tried doing 8 tbsp of flour once... Way way thick I recommend doing about 4 it seems to be perfect. Thanks for this recipe.

First time making biscuits and gravy, turned out better than I thought, but the gravy was just a little too thick, I added more flour at the beginning because I wasn't sure that I had enough in it, but I will know next time!

This was very easy to make! This was my first time making Sausage Gravy and I was confused why when I added my flour that it wasn't getting thick. So I added the milk after about 4tbsp of flour and then... presto!! Great, easy, tasty recipe! Thanks!!

Excellent recipe. I strongly recommend a tube of Jimmy Dean Sausage for this.

As for it coming out to thick or thin. As with most gravies it works better if you add a little liquid at a time (~1/2 cup each time), mixing in fully between pours until the gravy is just a bit thinner than you would like it. Then stir just a bit longer and it should come out perfect. Gravy is not typically something that needs precise measurements.

Great and simple. I made it in a 10" dutch oven and it turned out great. I added 12 tbsp flour and 6 cups skim milk (we love leftovers) A little salt and pepper to taste and it is great. Looking forward to warming some up for lunchh in a couple of days.

For the very first time, I made my own biscuits and they were great! Easier and cheaper than the store bought. If you buy store biscuits, they tend to get mushy. They are easy and cheap to make. All they take is, flour, shortening, salt, baking powder and milk. The gravy is fantastic. I think this is my husbands favorite meal of all.

I usually use the packets of gravy, but didn't have any this morning. I found this recipe, so I gave it a try. Amazing!! So simple! I did add some ground pepper and a dash of salt. I will use this from now on!

Holy Cow, I have tried the simpliest of things in the kitchen and I have screwed it up. This was foolproof. Tasted just like a store bought brand too. Thank You

I'm very thankful for this recipe. For many years I was too afraid to try making this because I feared it wouldn't be as good as my mother-in-law's. Thankfully, this recipe closely matched the one she did. The only difference/add-in I made was Chicken Bouillon granules... it adds a little to the flavor. I don't want to make a better gravy than my mom-in-law because her's is wonderful just as it is. I just wanted to figure out how I could closely match her's so I could make Biscuits and Sausage Gravy for my husband now. Before, it was only when his mom came for a visit. So thank you! :D

Thanks for the recipe! I've never made this style of gravy before. I was raised on low-fat food (read:deprived) so have never tried it. I just made 4 quarts! of it for my son's wrestling tournament and it was super easy, very yummy and all the coaches loved it. I gave it four instead of five stars because I did have to modify the recipe to liven it up a bit...just some salt, pepper, sage and ceam cheese as another reviewer suggested.
