SWEDISH COFFEE BREAD | |
1 pt. milk 1 yeast cake 1/2 c. butter Cardamom seeds (about 6 or 8) 6 c. bread flour 1 c. sugar 1 lg. tsp. salt Dissolve yeast cake in a little lukewarm milk. Scald milk. Melt butter and add to scalded milk. Let cool. Add sugar and salt and crushed cardamom seeds. Add yeast. Add flour and knead thoroughly. Let rise until double in bulk (about 4 hours). Roll out and shape into braids or rolls. Let rise again about 1 hour. Bake in moderate oven (350 degree) about 1/2 hour. This amount will make 1 large coffee ring or 1 braid and about 1 dozen rolls. |
