CRISPY OATMEAL 
1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. 3-minute brand quick oats
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. chopped walnuts (optional)

Cream together shortening and sugars; beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt, soda. Stir into creamed mixture. Stir in oats, dates and nuts. form into small balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from sheets. Yield: 6 dozen.
