1 c. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 lg. eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 lg. pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts (optional)

Heat oven 350 degrees. Ungreased cookie sheets.

Cream butter, brown and white sugars in large mixer bowl until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat in vanilla. Add flour, baking soda and salt, beating until smooth. Mix in the chocolate and nuts by hand. Scoop by heaping tablespoon onto cookie sheet. Bake 15-18 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
