GREAT SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. butter
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. powdered sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. salad oil
2 tsp. vanilla
5 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt (optional)
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream butter and sugars well. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in salad oil and vanilla. Sift together flour, soda, salt, if desired and cream of tartar. Add to mixture, about 1/4 at a time (I use electric mixer throughout).

Chill dough. Drop from teaspoon onto cookie sheet or roll into balls; flatten slightly with glass dipped in confectioners' sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes about 10 dozen.
