WET BOTTOM SHOOFLY CAKE | |
CAKE: 1/2 c. baking molasses 1/2 c. King Syrup 2 1/4 c. boiling water 1 tsp. baking soda Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water and add to the above ingredients. 4 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 lb. brown sugar 3/4 c. Crisco or butter Work Crisco or butter into the dry ingredients, as in pie dough, until fine. Save 1 cup crumbs. Mix the rest of the crumbs with the liquid. BOTTOM: 1 c. table molasses 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. boiling water Stir until the molasses and soda are dissolved. Pour this into a 9 x 13 inch pan. Carefully spoon the cake batter over the liquid mixture in the pan. Sprinkle the crumbs evenly over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. |
