3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. cocoa
3/4 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. coarsely cut toasted nuts

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add well beaten eggs. Sift flour. Mix sifted flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, spices and cocoa together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Blend in flavoring and nuts. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
