GRANDMA'S SWEDISH RYE BREAD | |
2 c. scalded milk 2 c. warm water 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/3 c. molasses 1/3 c. lard 2 tsp. salt 2 cakes yeast, dissolved in a little warm water 3 c. rye flour 3 c. white flour (plus a little extra) Mix first 6 ingredients. When lukewarm add yeast in water. Beat well. Add flours, sifted together. Add enough white flour to make smooth stiff dough. Raise in warm place until double; punch down, raise again until light. Form into 4 small or 3 medium loaves in greased loaf pans. Bake at 375 degrees until done (approximately 40 to 50 minutes). |
