GRANDMA'S SOUR CREAM HOLIDAY COOKIES | |
2 c. brown sugar 1 c. butter 1 egg, well beaten 1 c. sour cream 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 4 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/8 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. vanilla Mix all ingredients in order given and chill well (batter is usually sticky, so I usually have best results chilling in the freezer). Taking a little of the dough each time, keeping remainder chilled, roll on a well-floured surface with a well-floured rolling pin. (Since dough is rich, adding flour as you roll out won't hurt the cookies.) Cut into favorite shapes. Bake on a greased pan at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes (hot oven: bake 325 degrees for 8-9 minutes). When edges just barely begin to brown, they're done. Frost and decorate with festive sprinkles. FROSTING: Powdered sugar Milk 1 tsp. vanilla Mix ingredients to spreading consistency. |
