SCALLOPED TOMATOES 
1/3 c. fine bread crumbs
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. basil, crumbled
1/4 tsp. thyme, crumbled
1/8 tsp. pepper
4 med. ripe tomatoes
2 green onions, chopped fine
1/2 tbsp. unsalted butter

Mix bread crumbs, sugar, basil, thyme and pepper. In a 9 inch pan arrange layer of tomatoes. Sprinkle with 1/3 bread crumb mixture and top with 1/2 of the onions. Continue to layer tomatoes in same fashion ending with bread crumbs. Melt butter and drizzle over tomatoes. Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes. Increase temperature to broil, put under broiler 5 inches from top. Broil 1 to 2 minutes until bread crumbs are brown.
