CRISP SLICED CUCUMBER PICKLE 
2 c. pickling lime
1/2 gal. vinegar
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. mustard seed
7 lbs. cucumbers, sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 gals. cold water
4 1/2 lbs. sugar
1 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mixed spice

Add 2 cups lime to 2 gallons cold water and pour over sliced cucumbers. Let stand for 24 hours.

Wash in fresh water several times and then soak in fresh water for 3 hours. Drain well and tie mixed pickling spices in cloth bag.

Mix sugar, salt, vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour over cucumber slices and bag of spice. Let stand in vinegar solution overnight then heat to boiling and boil for 45 minutes.

Seal in sterilized jars. These pickles will remain crisp.
