I have baked for several years poppyseed cake from the recipe of "Baker's" filling jar. My family has been delighted. It was a tradition during the holidays when I lived in Pitts. Pa. and now since I live in Fl. it has been impossible to find poppyseed filling by Baker's at any store. I found a filling made by "solo" but isn't the same recipe and my family complained it wasn't the same.

I have been using Bakers poppy seed filling for over 50 years, can't find it anywhere. I live North of Pittsburgh. I used Solo for the first time today and will never ever use it again - it is horrible!

Solo bought and has discontinued Baker Poppyseed filling and it is no longer listed on the website. I do not like Solo poppyseed filling at all either.

For the Baker poppyseed recipe, I use 1 (10 oz.) jar Baker Poppy Filling. All other ingredients are right.

 Patti Barr (Pennsylvania) replies:
I made poppy seed cake using about the same amount of Solo as the Baker jar amount (that recipe called for the whole jar of Baker) and it just wasn't the same. I'LL try again this Easter, since Solo is all there is.

I am looking for the recipe that was on the jar of bakers poppyseed filling. It has been a few years since I made it, and lost the recipe. This recipe does not look like it is from the jar, I used the whole jar in the recipe.

 Janet Roy (Oklahoma) replies:
Darlene, If you want to use the whole jar, then go ahead. THIS recipe clearly states to use 1/3 of the jar (since 1 jar makes 3 cakes), but everyone is free to adjust. That's part of the fun!

I buy poppyseed for this cake at a candy supply store. It is called "poppyseed butter". I in PA. I still use the recipe on the Baker's jar.

The original recipe uses the entire jar of filling... 10 oz.
