BEEF-RICE-CABBAGE GOULASH 
1 lb. ground beef
1 tbsp. shortening
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
2 tbsp. minced onion
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste OR 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
3 c. water
3/4 c. uncooked rice (not Minute Rice)
4 c. raw cabbage, chopped

Brown meat in hot shortening in large pan. Add garlic powder and minced onion. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add tomato paste or sauce, salt and pepper. Mix well. Stir in water and rice. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes. Add cabbage. Cook for 10 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Serves 8.

NOTE: May need to add more water as the goulash cooks.
