2 tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. pastry flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. milk

Cream shortening, add sugar and egg. Add 1/3 of dry ingredients with dates and stir in remainder alternately with the milk. Pour in shallow oiled pan and dot with cinnamon butter. Bake in moderate oven about 30 minutes.
