OLD COUNTRY RAISIN LOAF 
3 c. flour (plain)
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. raisins
1/3 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. walnuts
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk

Mix together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Grind together raisins and walnuts. Add to dry mixture. Cream shortening and sugar; add unbeaten egg and beat well. Alternately add dry mixture and buttermilk to shortening, blending well after each addition. Bake in 3 well greased No. 2 cans, or 2 well-greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pans at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool 10 to 15 minutes before removing from pans. Slices of bread are good plain or spread with butter or cream cheese.
