DATE CRUMBLES 
2 c. oats
2 1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
3 tsp. vanilla
1 c. melted butter
1 pkg. dates, chopped
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. water

In a medium saucepan combine dates, white sugar and water, bring to boiling, continue to cook on medium to low heat until thick, cool. In large bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda; add vanilla and melted butter; mix until all moistened.

Place 1/2 oat mixture in a greased 11x7 inch pan; press. Spread date mixture evenly over base, sprinkle remaining oat mixture over dates, do not press. Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden. Cool.
