PENNE WITH SAUSAGE CREAM SAUCE
1 pound sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
4 garlic cloves,minced
2/3 cup dry white wine
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can diced peeled tomatoes, undrained
1 cup heavy cream
4 tablespoons chopped Italian parsley (flat leaf parsley)
1 teaspoon salt or to taste
freshly ground pepper to taste
1 pound penne pasta, cooked according to package
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus additional for garnish

Cook sausage in large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove sausage and set aside; drain excess grease from skillet.

Melt butter and oil in skillet; add onion and sauté until softened and golden in color. Add garlic, cook and stir 1 minute. Add wine to skillet and reduce volume by half, about 2 minutes. Add tomatoes and simmer 3 minutes.

Return cooked sausage to skillet, add cream and simmer until sauce thickens slightly, about 5 minutes. Stir in parsley, salt and pepper.

Place cooked Penne in a large serving bowl; pour sauce over pasta; add Parmesan cheese and toss to combine.

Serve sprinkled with additional Parmesan cheese.

Serves 6.

I'm not a red-meat eater. I depend on my husband to give recipes thumbs up or down. This one received a definite thumbs up. He said it was outstanding. Had no fresh parsley on hand, so I threw in a tablespoon of dried.

A quick and easy recipe! Instead of tomatoes (my husband hates them cooked), I used a jar of spaghetti sauce and used fresh basil instead of parsley (what I had on hand). Very good! No need to add the salt (spaghetti sauce had enough). Made a couple loaves of french bread to go with, and a salad from the garden.

I have yet to make this. Sounds delicious! But one question, do I chop the sausage or keep it whole? Thanks!

Thanks for a delicious idea! I used the sauce recipe with these modifications - I used 1 tsp rosemary, 1 tsp thyme, 1 tsp oregano, sauteed those in the oil/butter, then added 1 chopped large sweet onion and the wine per recipe. I also used 2 large fresh tomatoes instead of canned - it's worth the extra few minutes for flavor and texture, simmered as per the recipe then added the cream, simmered about 4 minutes and added the Parmesan cheese, stirred and simmered for a few more minutes. We'll mix per pasta portion vs all in one shot. Very easy, very delicious. Thanks for a great post!

I loved this recipe! I thougt the tomatoes were a perfect touch. Only thing I would say is don't cook a whole pound of pasta. I feel the sauce won't go that far. Other than that it was amazing and delicious! Thank you for posting Rylee! Oh and I made it for my boyfriends birthday and he loved it!!

I LOVE this recipe, it is my "go-to" recipe when I have company and need to make a big pot meal. I use a Riesling for the white wine and I often grill the sausage to save sometime and then cut it into small pieces. What a great tasting recipe!

This recipe is yummy, but I double the sauce recipe, not the sausage, just everything else and add it to only 16 oz. of pasta. I also use bow tie pasta instead!

I was looking for a something similar that they serve at California Pizza Kitchen (in Hawaii). This was very good and "ono" (delicious). I used a half pound of pasta and it worked out well, keeping the pasta moist. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

With the fear that the sauce would not be enough I stretched the sauce by adding more wine, light cream, I used that instead, and tomato sauce and it worked out fine (about 1/4-1/2 cup each) I used about 1 1/4 lbs. of sausage and would cut that to 1/2-2/3 lbs. I also added mushrooms (with onions) and peas (cooked at the end). It tasted very good. I added the mushrooms for the bride and I don't like them, but I ate them anyway and it was all good.
