MOUNTAIN DEW POUND CAKE 
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
5 eggs
1 tsp. lemon extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract
zest from 1 lemon
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 (12 oz.) can Mountain Dew soda
confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease and flour a 10-inch fluted tube cake pan.

In large mixing bowl cream sugar, butter and shortening until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in extracts and zest. Add flour and Mountain Dew soda. Beat until combined. Pour into prepared cake pan.

Bake at 325°F for 1 1/2 hours. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Remove from pan to wire rack, cover cake with towel and allow to cool.

Dust top with confectioners' sugar.

Makes 12 servings.
