DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 sticks butter
1/4 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
4 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add cocoa and mix well. Add eggs one at a time. Add buttermilk, alternate with flour. Add vanilla. Sprinkle soda and cream of tartar on batter and mix well. Bake in 2 (9 inch) or 3 (8 inch) pans. Bake at 350 degrees.

ICING:

1 stick butter
1 box powdered sugar
Cocoa to suit
Evaporated milk

Add 2 tsp. vanilla.
