DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1 1/2 c. plain flour
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
2 eggs

Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add remaining ingredients. Beat until creamy. Bake in 8 inch layer pans at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted in. Frost with mocha icing.

MOCHA ICING:

1 stick butter, softened
2 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. coffee
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 box confectioners' sugar

Beat together butter, milk, coffee and cocoa. Add remaining ingredients. Beat until creamy. Frost cooled cake layers.
