DEVILS' FOOD CAKE 
1 3/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. butter
3 (1 oz.) squares chocolate
2 c. cake flour
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Sift flour and soda together. Add flour and buttermilk alternately. Add melted chocolate and vanilla. Beat mixture thoroughly. Bake in 2 (8" or 9") layer pans at 350 degrees for 20 or 25 minutes. Frost with frosting below.

FROSTING:

5 tbsp. cocoa
1 1/2 sticks butter
1 1/2 boxes confectioners' sugar
Dash of salt
5 tbsp. coffee

Mix all ingredients well. If more liquid is needed, add milk by teaspoonfuls until frosting is of spreading consistency. Frost cold cake.
