DEVIL FOOD CAKE 
3/4 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. milk
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 oz. chocolate (bitter)
3/4 c. water

Melt chocolate in the water. Sift dry ingredients together. Cream butter and sugar until creamy then the eggs. Add chocolate mixture when it has cooled. Alternately add flour and milk then the vanilla.

Bake the cake in 2 (9 inch) pans for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Icing the cake with Caramel Icing.

CARAMEL ICING:

1 box brown sugar
1/2 c. Pet milk
Pinch of salt
1 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together in a 2 quart saucepan the brown sugar, Pet milk and salt. Bring the icing to a rolling boil for 3 minutes. Take off the stove and 1 tablespoons butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Put into a mixing bowl and beat with the mixer until it starts to get a dull look and thickens. If it gets too thick before icing the cake add a little of Pet milk to the icing.
