DEVILS' FOOD CAKE 
CAKE:

1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs

Sift dry ingredients together, add shortening, milk, and vanilla. Blend, beat for 3 minutes, add eggs and beat for 1 1/2 minutes. Pour into 2 greased and floured 8 inch pans. Bake 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees.

MOCHA ICING:

3 tbsp. soft butter
2 c. confectioner's sugar
2 tsp. cream or milk
2 tbsp. hot strong coffee
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. dry cocoa

Combine liquids, add cocoa, add sugar. Beat and add salt, vanilla, and other ingredients. Beat.
