STEWED APPLES 
1/3 c. butter
1/2-3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 1/2 c. water
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
5-6 c. apples

Mix sugar and cornstarch. Add water gradually. Add butter and cinnamon. Bring to boil. Add 5-6 cups. Sliced apples. Simmer 20 minutes. Great as sauce on ice cream, on pound cake, etc.

My wife "hates" stewed apples, but gobbles these down. I used a mix of apples (Mac, Gala, golden delicious in a discounted pre-pack) and the results were terrific. Next time, though, a bit less butter and sugar.

If you're confused...try Granny Smith apples. They hold up better during the cooking process.
