ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 lb. orange slice candy
1 (8 oz.) pkg. pitted dates
2 c. walnuts
1 (3 1/4 oz.) can flaked coconut
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 c. orange juice
2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar

Sift first 2 ingredients together; set aside. Chop next 3 ingredients and mix with coconut. Also add 1/2 cup of the flour mixture and combine well; set aside. Whip butter and sugar together. Add eggs, one at a time and beat well after each addition. Combine soda and buttermilk. Add alternately to the butter mixture - the flour mixture and the buttermilk mixture. Blend well after each addition, then add candy mixture.

Turn all into a large tube pan that has been greased and floured. Bake in a slow oven (300 degrees) for one hour and 45 minutes. Remove from oven.

Combine orange juice and confectioner's sugar. Before cake is cool, pour orange juice mixture over cake. Cool. Put in refrigerator overnight before removing from pan.
