YELLOW CAKE WITH CARAMEL ICING 
2 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1/4 c. Crisco
5 eggs
1/8 tsp. salt
3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. lemon extract
1 c. sweet milk

Cream sugar, butter and Crisco. Add eggs, flour, baking powder and salt to mixture, alternating with milk and flavorings. Pour into greased tube pan and bake at 325°F for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Remove from pan while warm.

Caramel Icing:

2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1 stick butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water

Put sugar, milk and butter in a saucepan; let get hot. Put sugar and water in an iron skillet and caramelize. Add the caramelized sugar to the milk mixture and cook until it forms a soft ball when dropped in cool water. Add vanilla and heat until creamy.
