1 c. packed brown sugar 1/2 c. butter 1 tsp. cinnamon 3 c. whole milk 18 slices bread, crusts cut off 6 eggs, well beaten 1/3 c. sugar 2 tsp. vanilla In medium saucepan combine brown sugar, butter and cinnamon. Cook until brown sugar and butter are melted. Add a little water to make drizzle easier to pour. Grease 13 x 9 pan and pour 1/3 of drizzle mixture over bottom of pan. Press down 1 layer of bread slices, then pour 1/3 drizzle again. Repeat until there are 3 layers. Beat eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla. Pour over bread slices making sure to cover all. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes and cut and serve. This dish is sweet enough so that no syrup is needed. You may even want to cut down on the amount of sugar used. |
