VIRGINIA BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Pinch salt
4 tbsp. lard or shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in shortening with a knife, until all is consistency of meal. Add milk, handling as little as possible. Pat out with hands, or roll on floured board, and cut out. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
