1 c. dates, cut up
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. hot water
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1/8 tsp. salt
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour (sifted)
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts, chopped

Pour hot water over dates and baking soda. Cool. Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Add date mixture and then flour, cocoa and vanilla plus 1 cup chocolate chips. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 x 2 inch pan. Sprinkle remaining chips and nuts on top of batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve warm or cold with chipped cream.
