DECORATOR'S BUTTERCREAM ICING 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. confectioners' sugar (approx. 1 lb.)
2 tbsp. milk

Whip shortening. Add sugar, 1 cup at a time. Add milk. Store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. For chocolate icing, add 3/4 cup cocoa or 3 unsweetened chocolate squares, melted and an additional 1 to 2 tablespoons milk.
