HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE CAKE
1/4 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 c. unsifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 3/4 c. milk
1/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. Hershey's Cocoa
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt

Generously grease and flour two 9 inch round or one 9x13x2 inch cake pans. Cream butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla until fluffy; blend in eggs. Combine cocoa, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl; add alternately with milk to batter. (NOTE: This is the way old fashioned cakes are made so be sure the final addition to the batter is milk.) Blend well.

Pour into pans. Bake in a 350 degree F. oven 30 to 35 minutes for round pans and 40 to 45 minutes for oblong pan, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes then remove from pans. When completely cool, frost with your favorite frosting.
