SWEET & SOUR RED CABBAGE 
1 (4 1/2 to 5 lb.) cabbage
8 tbsp. butter
Salt & pepper to taste
1 tsp. or more nutmeg
3 tbsp. white vinegar
3 tbsp. brown sugar
1 c. raisins
2 c. cooking apples, peeled & diced

Shred cabbage finely. Heat butter in large heavy casserole and add cabbage. Sprinkle salt, pepper and nutmeg. Add vinegar, brown sugar, raisins and diced apples. Do not add liquid. Bring to boil, cook 10 minutes, stirring once in a while. Place in 400 degree oven. Bake, covered for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
