DANISH APPLE BARS | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 c. shortening 1 tsp. salt 1 egg yolk plus milk to make 2/3 c. (save egg white) 1 c. cornflakes, crushed 8 to 10 apples, sliced 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Mix flour, shortening, salt, egg yolk and milk as pie pastry. Roll out 1/2 of pastry to fit 10 x 15-inch pan. Sprinkle crust with crushed cornflakes. Cover with sliced apples, sugar and cinnamon. Roll out remaining half of dough, place on top of apples, pinch edges to seal and then brush with egg white. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. FROSTING: 1 tbsp. water 1 c. powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla Mix ingredients. Frost while cake is warm. |
