EASTER PAPOOSE BREAD 
1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 tsp. plus 1/2 c. sugar
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 c. scalded milk
Pinch of salt
1/3 c. butter
2 eggs, beaten
3 1/2 c. unsifted flour
1 egg, beaten well with
1 tsp. water
6 eggs in their shells

Combine water, 1 teaspoon sugar, and yeast in a small bowl and let stand 5 minutes. In a large bowl, combine milk, salt, butter, eggs, and remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Add about half the flour and beat until smooth. Stir in yeast mixture.

Slowly add the remaining flour to form a stiff dough (add more flour if needed), turn out on a floured board and knead until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled.
