STEAMED CHOCOLATE PUDDING AND
SAUCE
 
1 egg
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. melted butter
3 1/2 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Steam 2 hours in double boiler.

SAUCE:

Beat 1 egg with electric mixer 8 minutes; add 1 cup confectioners sugar and 2 tablespoons melted butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Serve on warm pudding.

This is a family favorite loved by all Dot's children and grandchildren.

My brother Donnie and I always knew when our youngest sister, Denise was coming home because Mom always made chocolate steamed pudding.

I grew up with pretty much this exact recipe, with these differences: cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and cocoa, beat well, sift dry ingredients together and add to already combined cocoa mix alternately with milk. Butter mold, fill two thirds, and steam two hours. Let cool about 10 min and turn out. Last couple of times i've made it i've thrown in some crushed red walnuts and a small amount of dried cranberries, and I also separated the eggs, beat the whites, and folded them in last. Serve with fresh whipped cream!
