APPLE CRUMB PIE | |
2/3 c. granulated sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 3/4 tsp. grated lemon rind 1 tbsp. butter 6-8 green apples, pared & sliced 1 unbaked 9" pie shell Blend sugar, salt, spices, lemon rind and butter. Toss apples in mixture. Arrange in pie shell. SUGAR CRUMB TOPPING: 3/4 c. firmly packed light brown sugar 1/4 c. granulated sugar 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter Blend sugars, flour, salt and butter. Spoon topping over apples. Bake in hot 425 degree oven for 15 minutes; reset oven temperature control to 350 degrees and bake 35-40 minutes. Makes 1 9 inch pie. For optimum slicing, allow to stand 3-4 hours. |
